Standing for Truth; January 14, 2023

Acts 5:42 Day after day, in the temple courts and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Christ.

This is certainly a prime example of civil disobedience! As they had already proclaimed to the authorities, they were obeying God rather than men. (verse 29) The authorities had no taste for accountability, specifically in relation to what they had done to Jesus, and being confronted with the truth, “they were furious and wanted to put them to death.” (verse 22) We see that sort of thing today, even in the US that is supposed to be a “bastion of liberty.” Autocrats don’t like to be countered! However, we are to learn from the example of the apostles and never back down from God’s truth, whatever the consequences. It would have been unthinkable even a few years ago that someone would lose their job or even be arrested for maintaining that there are only two genders! Some people insist that issue has nothing to do with religion and faith, but when the Bible so clearly states, “male and female he created them,” (Genesis 1:27) denying biology is denying our Creator. Like the apostles, we need to be so committed to God’s truth that we “rejoice to be counted worthy to suffer disgrace.” (verse 41) The devil is going to attack us in many ways, not least of which being the world’s system. We need to be aware of it and keep our armor on, (Ephesians 6:13-18) setting people free by the truth of God. (John 8:32)

I’ve never encountered official persecution for standing on God’s truth, but I have lost some friends over it. I seek not to offend needlessly, but I will not back down from the truth. Thankfully, I have seen someone who certainly seemed to be “gender confused” come through gloriously, and they are currently actively serving the Lord. I had little if any input into that particular situation, but I have also dealt with people who were much closer, physically or emotionally. It is very painful to have relatives swallow, and stand up for, lies! I am to speak the truth in love, regardless of the consequences. That isn’t always easy, but it’s always worthwhile. I’ve got to remember that our enemy is by definition a liar, (John 8:44) be on the alert for his deceptions, and always stand on and proclaim God’s truth.

Father, thank You for this reminder. Thank You for the ways that lies are being exposed in the US government these days. I pray that Your truth would prevail there, as well as throughout the earth and in my life personally, for Your glory. Thank You. Praise God!
