Luke 24:44 He said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.”

Jesus was reminding His disciples that He had been pointing out to them all along the prophecies of His suffering, death and resurrection, but today, when those events are 2000 years in the past, we need to be aware that they apply equally to the prophecies of His return, and the end of the world. Before His cross Jesus said explicitly that no one knows the day or the hour that will happen, (Mark 13:32) and after His resurrection, when the disciples were speculating about it, He told them it wasn’t theirs to know. (Acts 1:7) However, He also said to be aware of the signs of the times, (Matthew 16:2-3) and that we are to keep watch. (Matthew 24:42, 44) Today we have the very real possibility of nuclear war in the Middle East, and we have a president in the US who seems bent on destroying everything Christian, and the nation along with it. That should drive every believer to the Word, and to faithfulness to whatever tasks the Lord has assigned them. As Jesus said repeatedly, every word of Scripture will be fulfilled, whether we anticipate it or not, and whether we like it or not. As it says in Hebrews, we should be all the more earnest as we see the Day approaching. (Hebrews 10:25)

I have never been an “End Times Preacher,” and I have been a bit distressed by well-meaning people who are obsessed with charts and time lines and speculation. I certainly don’t want to go that direction! At the same time, I am seeing enough things going on in the world today that make prophecies that previously seemed fantastic all too possible, that I can’t help but feel the time is near. That doesn’t mean I’m to run around like a chicken with my head cut off by any means. On the contrary, it means I am to be all the more faithful at whatever tasks the Lord assigns to me, however mundane they might seem. I am not to let my heart be troubled or afraid, (John 14:1) and that is a very real temptation for me. Political news from the US is distressing to say the least! I have to keep reminding myself that God is still God, and that His plans will be fulfilled. I pray for His mercy, and for protection for all who are His by conviction and choice. The only thing that keeps me from wanting Christ’s return to be tomorrow, or even today, is the desire to see so many more people saved before it is too late. We do have prophecies of end-time revival, and I want to see those fulfilled right here!

Father, this is more and more training in trusting obedience. Help me be fully obedient, refusing anxiety because I know You are faithful. Help me recognize and exercise Your priorities for my time and energy, so that I may be the harvest worker You want me to be, for Your glory. Thank You. Praise God!
