Psalm 5:2 Hear my cry for help,
my King and my God,
for to you I pray.
Recently there was a “scandal” because Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth opened a prayer meeting in the Pentagon (!) with a prayer to “King Jesus.” The Leftists were horrified, because they do all they can to deny 250 years of American history with the excuse of “separation of Church and State.” They very conveniently ignore two facts about that line in a letter by Thomas Jefferson (NOT in the Constitution). The first is that the Constitution forbids the establishment of a State Church, as in the Church of England, with which the founders were all too familiar. The second is that the Constitution protects the Church from the State, and not the other way around. Theocracies never work, because God is never really in charge, just people who claim to act for God. Iran is a clear example of that today. However, acknowledging the sovereignty of God is wise in every age and every circumstance. Totalitarian governments hate true religion because they don’t want to acknowledge that there is anything higher than the State, and individuals in rebellion against God are the same way. We want to control things ourselves, making our own rules, totally blind to the reality that we aren’t that smart or that pure. David was a flawed individual, as we all are, but this and many other Psalms proclaim his commitment to God. We need to remember that we are no more perfect than he was, and renew our awareness of and commitment to God daily, in all honesty and sincerity, knowing that He alone knows what is best for us and for everyone else.
I have been deeply saddened by some of the people who are taken in by all the Leftist rhetoric that is flying around. That includes people who love God and know better, really. Media, both legacy and social, is seldom objective, much less inspired by the Holy Spirit! A danger for me is to feel holier-than-thou, but that is just another face of “virtue signaling,” which I despise. I am not to do that which I accuse others of doing! I am to pray for those in leadership, and I am to pray for those with whom I have influence, speaking the truth in love and recognizing my own fallibility. We all get defensive! I am to remember that Jesus is the only one who is always right, and stay as committed as possible to His Lordship, in my life and the world around me, for His glory alone.
Father, thank You for this reminder. I ask for Your wisdom in how to respond to people I care about when they spout falsehoods, not recognizing that they themselves have been deceived. May I be an agent of Your rule and reign being established as Your will is done, for Your glory alone. Thank You. Hallelujah!
