Psalm 75:6-7 No one from the east or the west
or from the desert can exalt a man.
But it is God who judges:
He brings one down, he exalts another.

This is an extremely pertinent passage in a US election year! We get all worked up about such things, forgetting that God is the ultimate judge. That’s not to say that we aren’t to participate in the political process, because that is a civic responsibility as well as a gift from God, but our mental and emotional framework should be in submission to God. We are responsible to be faithful to God in our words and actions, seeking His will in things small and great. (Actually, we often misjudge whether things are small or great, which is all the more reason to seek to be faithful in all things.) We need to remember that everyone ends up before the judgment seat of God, and live and act accordingly.

This election cycle has certainly had me tied in knots at times, as I’m sure is true for many. That’s a clear indication I’ve got room to grow in full appreciation of these two verses! At the same time, I’ve not been as faithful in prayer as I might have been, and that shows misplaced priorities. At this point it’s just over a week until election day and my absentee ballot was mailed in some time ago, but I still have plenty of opportunity to pray. However, that’s not to be anxious, desperate prayer, but rather prayer that those who know God would be obedient to Him and that the mouths of fools would be silenced. (Proverbs 10:14, Ecclesiastes 10:12) In other words, I need to pray the Lord’s Prayer and mean it, that God’s Name would be hallowed, that His kingdom would come and His will be done, for His glory.

Father, thank You for this reminder. I pray that all of Your children would hear this same Word from You and act on it, what ever their nation or situation. May we trust You with our circumstances and our selves, trusting You to lift us up as You see fit, (James 4:10, 1 Peter 5:6) for Your glory. Thank You. Praise God!
